Durban, South Africa: Reporting live from AIDS 2016
Friday, 31 October 2014
Glenda Gray from the Perinatal HIV Research Unit at the University of the Witwatersrand reports that 60% of sex workers in South Africa are thought to be HIV positive but only 30% are receiving treatment. The above slide shows the general level of abuse suffered by sex workers, who also frequently experience discrimination at health care facilities. Gray urged doctors and nurses to remember their ethical obligation to treat all patients with equal respect, including sex workers.
